Exploring - Travel Tales (ASSIGNMENT 1, ARTICLE 3 - IDM)

Image
When we try to explain a cat's daredevil behaviour, we say 'Curiosity killed the cat', and when it survives, we overlap that with 'A cat has nine lives'. The same could be said for explorers. No one really knows what drives a person to risk all - to stand on top of a mountain or dive deep into an ocean's trench. What we do know is that a good many follow their lead, and their acts often define the history. To quench this unsatisfying urge of being at the farthest of lands, people risk it all and push their boundaries to the maximum. One such tale is of the two gentlemen I met during one of my travels in 2020 - the year when very few had the opportunity and the privilege to travel.  I was on a weekend getaway to a small town in Himachal Pradesh called 'Kasol'. Kasol is a  beautiful and pristine village nestled in  the Kullu district of Himachal and is about 75 kms from Manali. The serene atmosphere of Kasol is  disturbed only by the chirping of birds and ...

Focus and Concentration (ASSIGNMENT 1 ARTICLE 2, IDM)

Image
Can someone concentrate on two different things at the same time? If I say, you are already performing two completely different functions simultaneously right now, do you accept it? Actually, concentrating on two different things is not possible for our conscious mind, it is all about how fast we are switching contexts. But our subconscious is capable of performing multi-tasking, without switching context. Most of the times, we are already performing multiple functions simultaneously; breathing, heart beating, reading this and multiple functions without even letting our conscious mind know. This suggests that conscious mind can get tired, but not your subconscious. What if we train our subconscious to focus and concentrate? If we train our subconscious to perform some action, we can do that action without getting tired and can expect the perfect result from it. I’ll list a few steps which I personally follow to talk with the subconscious mind. Coming back to our main topic.  How to...

Cinema - A Modern Maverick? (ASSIGNMENT 1, ARTICLE 1 - IDM)

Image
Walt Disney once said, "We don’t make movies to make money, we make money to make movies". We resort to movies when we feel happy, sad, angry, confused, and make them a part of ourselves, so much so that all we need to do is ask “ Which house do you belong to?” to bond with a complete stranger (Context Harry Potter!). But are movies made just to entertain us? What do movies do to us? And why are they so important? Movies have come a long way ever since the Lumiere Bros screened their first footage. Gradually we started to use the technique to narrate stories and we today use visual effects and computer graphics to enhance our film viewing experience.  But movies or 'films', to use the technical word, have been a trigger to stir change in society. When rightly used, it's a tool that could build great empires, and destroy them when not. This is evident from the many incidents which have gone down in history showcasing both the extremes. Which is why we have more tha...
